DES Teacher Center

Let's look at a few more components Discovery has to offer. Explore 1 or 2 of the components listed in the Teacher Center, and share your thoughts. How would you incorporate it into your classroom? How would it impact you and/or your students?

I think the Discovery Atlas feature is fantastic. It is a great way to explore other countries and cultures with your students. This feature provides both the students and the teacher with an engaging way to explore Geography!

What a wonderful day today! This seminar was such an interesting topic to know.I learned a lot today eventhough the time is not enough for each lesson to take,I really find it a very wonderful and usable teachnique for my class. It will help me a lot and make the lesson interesting to the students.

I will use the Lesson Plan Center. There are several lessons already created using Discovery Education resources such as videos to chose from. I will use these lessons as a springboard as I create lessons for my new 6th grade world history class.

I went on to the lesson plan library and the thematic unit links. Both had a very extensive list of lesson plans and units that I could use. However, I did NOT like how you could NOT narrow the search by grade level on this area. I found alot of stuff for middle and high school level. Also, there were no ELA thematic units.

The (STEM connect) enriches students' learning in the classroom.

I would use the calendar to teach this day in history through videos. The students will want o see the videos instead of hearing me lecture them. It is hard to keep their attention. They learn better when technology is involved.

I looked through the thematic units. I found that Math did not have very many to choose from, but that there was a very good one on measurement. It is broken down by grade levels which is very helpful. The social studies had more to choose from, but only 2 that would be in match the 5th grade GLEs. I think that I would like to try the measurement unit next year.

i would use the calendar to teach with social studies. i think the kids would be really interested in learning about events that happened on certain dates, such as their bday, holidays, etc.

Ready zone: contininity of learning This is an excellent way for students to stay on task even if they are out of school. They are able to view assignment and stay up with the rest of the class

The calendar tool will be useful for this day in history. It will grasp the students attention more than lecture.

One of my major challenges is to enlighten my students' ability to use the "comma." I viewed the Lesson Plans in the Teacher Center. It took me to a super "comma" video that I will definitely use next year, video segment by segment. It will be the basis of my daily powerups from day one until my charges master the use of the "comma."

The Interactive Atlas was an exceptional tool for classroom use. The material found there brings alive the world other than ones own community.

Make history come alive everyday by showing your students video content that presents events that happened on a particular calendar day, week or month.

I looked at lesson plans for visual and preforming arts. This site will help me tremendously this year to teach ACT174. Besides giving ideas on what and how to incorporate art into the curriculum it also provides some very good ideas.
